Lead Class 1 Operations Worker Training

Course Type: In person

Course Length: Full Day

Why Do I Need This Training?

Lead is a highly toxic material that can cause a multitude of severe health effects including neurological disorders, gastrointestinal effects, anemia, and kidney disease. Workers in construction and industrial settings are often exposed to lead occupationally due to a lack of proper classification of work and may lead to lead exposure and poor worksite hygiene practices. Understanding what type of work constitutes a lead operation, and what controls are required to minimize worker exposure is essential for the protection of the worker.

Training is an important component in preventing worker exposure to lead. Control methods, measures and procedures can only be as effective as the workers carrying them out; employers and workers must have the knowledge required to protect themselves and others from injury and illness.

When Do I Require This Training?

The Occupational Health & Safety Act requires employers to make workers aware of the hazards in their workplace and take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of the worker. Both the MLITSD Lead on Construction Projects Guideline and the Environmental Abatement Council of Canada (EACC) Lead Guideline for Construction, Renovation, Maintenance or Repair require that all workers involved in the disturbance or handling of lead-containing materials, or are otherwise exposed to lead, shall receive training.

If you are an employer or a worker at a workplace where lead containing materials are present, produced, processed, used, handled, or stored and your work activities may expose you to lead, this training is for you. Norpro’s Lead Awareness and Class 1 Operation Worker Training course is designed for workers who intend on performing Class 1 Lead Operations and covers all required content in accordance with the MLITSD Lead on Construction Projects Guideline as well as the Environmental Abatement Council of Canada (EACC) Lead Guideline for Construction, Renovation, Maintenance or Repair.
