Lead Training Service

Lead Hazard Awareness Training

Course Type: In person

Course Length: ½ Day

Why Do I Need This Training?

Lead is a highly toxic material that can cause a multitude of severe health effects including neurological disorders, gastrointestinal effects, anemia, and kidney disease. Workers in construction and industrial settings are often exposed to lead occupationally due to a lack of understanding of what activities may lead to lead exposure and poor worksite hygiene practices. Being able to identify products that may contain lead and understand the work practices that may exposure workers to lead, is essential for worker protection.

When Do I Require This Training?

The Occupational Health & Safety Act requires employers to make workers aware of the hazards in their workplace and take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of the worker.

If you are an employer or a worker at a workplace where lead containing materials are present, produced, processed, used, handled, or stored this course will educate you on how to identify potential lead containing materials, as well as how to navigate any applicable legislation and guidelines to deal with the classification of lead operations.

Who Should Attend?
  • Any workers, including construction tradespeople, who work in environments where they may encounter lead containing products in their work.
  • Supervisors of workers who may encounter lead containing products in their work.
  • Individuals who contract out work on lead containing materials.
  • Health and Safety Professionals and Joint Health and Safety Committee members looking to expand their knowledge.

Please Note: the scope of this course does not include the requirements for performing Class 1, 2 or 3 lead operations. If you are conducting work activities that may expose workers to lead (e.g. surface coating removal, welding/burning, demolition / construction / restoration work), please refer to our “Lead Hazard Awareness and Class 1 Operations Worker Training” for more detailed training for Class 1 Operations workers. If you are unsure which training is appropriate for your employees, please contact us for guidance.
